Non-Resident Landlords

If the landlord's normal place of abode is not the UK, he is normally considered by the Inland Revenue as non-resident for taxation purposes. Under the Income Taxes Management Act 1970 as amended by the Finance Act 1995 the Inland Revenue will require the Agent to withhold tax from rental income at basic rate, which is currently 22% and to pay such tax over quarterly to the Inland Revenue; unless the Inland Revenue have agreed that the Agent may pay the Landlord his rent without any tax deduction.
